TP-Link - Kasa A19 Wi-Fi Smart LED Bulbs with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant | Unboxing + Setup + Review
Hey, welcome back to my channel! Today, we’re unboxing and reviewing the TP-Link Kasa A19 Wi-Fi Smart LED Bulbs. If you’re like me, you have a routine for turning lights on and off, so these smart bulbs are a quick solution to automate that while adding a bit of decor and mood lighting.
Unboxing
These are the TP-Link Kasa Smart Light Bulbs, model KL125 P5, size A19, and 60W equivalent. They are compatible with Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings. Here’s what the box looks like from all sides.
I chose these bulbs because they were a budget-friendly option compared to the Philips Hue bulbs. This is my first time using smart bulbs, so we’ll see if these meet my needs or if I’ll consider switching to Philips later on.
The packaging is simple and has a small plastic tab to open. Inside the box:
5 light bulbs
A small instruction manual directing you to download the Kasa Smart app.
Let's open it up and check out the bulbs. The manual didn’t come with a QR code to download the app, which is a bit inconvenient.
Setup
Download the Kasa Smart App: Create an account if you’re new, and log in.
Install the Bulb: Make sure the power is off, screw in the bulb, and then turn the power back on. The bulb should blink three times.
Connect to Wi-Fi: Go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the TP-Link Smart Bulb network, then return to the Kasa app to continue setup.
Configure the Bulb: Choose your home Wi-Fi network and enter the password. The bulb will connect and you can name it (e.g., “Office Lamp”). You may also need to update the firmware.
Using the Kasa App
Once setup is complete, you can control the bulbs via the Kasa app:
Presets: Quickly switch between colors and brightness levels.
Power Button: Turn the bulb on and off.
Brightness Control: Adjust the brightness from 1% to 100%.
White Light: Adjust the color temperature from 2500K to 6500K.
Color Wheel: Select any color from the spectrum.
Schedule: Set up routines to turn the lights on and off at specific times.
Scheduling Example
Turn On: Set the bulb to turn on at 6 PM every day.
Turn Off: Set the bulb to turn off at 11:30 PM.
You can also set the bulb to match the sunrise and sunset times based on your location.
Features
Brightness: The bulbs are quite bright and comparable to standard 60W LED bulbs.
Color Options: The app offers a wide range of colors to choose from, including vibrant pinks, blues, and reds.
Presets: Customize up to four presets per bulb for easy access to your favorite settings.
Automation: The bulbs can be scheduled to turn on and off, and you can control them remotely using the app or voice assistants.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Easy setup and installation.
Affordable compared to other brands.
Wide range of colors and brightness levels.
Convenient scheduling and automation.
Cons:
The app could use a QR code for easier setup.
Presets don’t carry over to new bulbs, which requires reconfiguration.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m impressed with the TP-Link Kasa A19 Smart Bulbs. They offer great value for the price, are easy to set up, and provide a wide range of lighting options. The scheduling feature is especially convenient for automating my lighting routine.
