eufy Security - eufyCam 3 2-Camera Wireless 4K Surveillance: Unboxing, Setup, Features, and Review

Hello, everyone! I’m Ostenako, and today, I’m reviewing the eufyCam 3 2-Camera Wireless 4K Surveillance system. This home security setup has everything you need for robust home surveillance, including easy setup, nearly unlimited power and storage, and excellent video quality. In this post, I’ll walk you through the unboxing, setup process, key features, and my personal likes and dislikes about the system.

Unboxing the eufyCam 3

When you open the box, you’ll find:

  • Home Base: Includes storage expansion slots, Ethernet port, power port, and a USB charging port.

  • Two Cameras: Each equipped with solar panels, infrared, and motion lights.

  • Mounting Hardware: Screws and mounts for easy installation.

  • Ethernet Cable and Power Adapter: For the home base.

  • Manual and Stickers: For setup guidance.

The home base includes 16 GB of onboard storage, but you can expand this with an external hard drive if needed. Note that only one USB cable is provided for charging the cameras, so you may need an additional USB-C cable.

Setting Up the eufyCam 3

  1. Charge the Cameras:

    • Fully charge the cameras (about 8 hours) before starting the setup.

  2. Set Up the Home Base:

    • Download the eufy Security app.

    • Connect the home base to your router using the Ethernet cable and to a power outlet.

    • Power on the home base and wait for the light to turn blue.

    • Scan the QR code on the bottom of the home base using the app and follow the prompts.

  3. Add and Sync Cameras:

    • Remove the plastic protection film from the cameras.

    • In the app, add the cameras by selecting the home base and pressing the sync button on the cameras for 2 seconds.

    • Follow the prompts to complete the setup.

  4. Mount the Cameras:

    • Choose a location with direct sunlight for optimal solar charging.

    • Drill pilot holes if mounting on hard surfaces and secure the mounts with the provided screws.

    • Attach the cameras to the mounts and adjust as needed.

Key Features

  • 4K Video Resolution: Provides clear, detailed footage that allows for zooming in without significant loss of quality.

  • AI-Powered Detection: Differentiates between humans, pets, and vehicles, reducing unnecessary alerts.

  • Solar-Powered: Ensures continuous power with at least 2 hours of sunlight per day.

  • Local Storage: 16 GB of internal storage, expandable with an external hard drive up to 16 TB.

  • Night Vision: Offers both infrared and color night vision with a built-in motion light.

  • User-Friendly App: Easy to navigate, with options for privacy zones, activity zones, and detailed notifications.

Performance and Review

The eufyCam 3 system excels in providing high-quality surveillance with minimal maintenance. The AI detection and solar power are standout features that enhance the overall convenience and reliability of the system. The video quality is exceptional, both day and night, and the app offers comprehensive control and customization options.

However, the system is priced at around $476, which might be steep for some. Each device essentially costs about $166, but considering the features and the fact that you won't need to worry about battery replacements or monthly fees, it offers good value for the money.

The only minor inconvenience was the manual wire screwing during setup, which required a smaller screwdriver than initially expected. But once set up, the system operates smoothly without any significant issues.

Conclusion

Overall, I am highly satisfied with the eufyCam 3 system. It provides excellent video quality, reliable solar power, extensive storage options, and a user-friendly app. If you're looking for a comprehensive home surveillance solution, the eufyCam 3 is definitely worth considering.
