Corsair MP600 Pro XT SSD Failed: A Rant and Replacement with Samsung 990 Pro
Hello, everyone! I’m Ostenako, and today I want to share my frustrating experience with the Corsair MP600 Pro XT 2TB NVMe SSD. After a year and three months, this SSD failed me, causing significant disruptions. I’ll walk you through what happened, my troubleshooting attempts, and how I eventually replaced it with a Samsung 990 Pro and a Western Digital Blue 2TB drive.
The Beginning of the End
It was a regular day, and I was transferring video files from my phone and camera to my D drive (a mechanical drive for archiving data). My Corsair MP600 Pro XT was my C drive, used for the operating system and software. Suddenly, my computer crashed, and I was greeted by the blue screen of death.
Despite having no previous blue screen issues, my PC occasionally restarted without warning, which I attributed to Windows bugs. I assumed a simple restart would fix the issue, but I was wrong. This crash marked the end of my Corsair MP600 Pro XT.
Troubleshooting Nightmare
I tried various troubleshooting methods:
Updating the BIOS
Changing the SSD slot on the motherboard
Creating a bootable USB drive
Connecting the SSD via an external adapter
Nothing worked. My PC couldn’t detect the SSD, even when connected to different computers, including a Mac. The SSD had power, but it was essentially dead.
Temporary Solution
Out of desperation, I purchased a new SATA mechanical hard drive to install Windows and access my computer. Running an operating system on a mechanical drive was painfully slow, with tasks taking 14 to 40 minutes. Editing videos and rendering became a nightmare.
Corsair’s Response
I contacted Corsair, who eventually set up an RMA and asked me to pay for shipping the faulty SSD back. However, I wasn’t ready to send it back until I figured out how to access my files.
A New Beginning with Samsung 990 Pro
I decided to replace the Corsair SSD with a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD. After ordering from Amazon, I installed the new SSD, cloned my mechanical hard drive using Macrium Reflect, and finally had a functional and speedy system again. Cloning was straightforward, and my system was back to normal in no time.
Features of the Samsung 990 Pro
The Samsung 990 Pro restored my faith in SSDs. It offered:
Fast read/write speeds
Reliable performance
Easy installation and setup
Lessons Learned
Create a Windows Backup Drive: Always have a backup drive to avoid data loss.
Keep a Bootable USB Drive: Essential for emergencies like this.
Beware of RMA Hassles: Corsair’s RMA process was cumbersome and slow.
Final Thoughts
The Corsair MP600 Pro XT failure was a significant setback. The slow response and lack of customer support were disappointing. However, the Samsung 990 Pro has been a game-changer, offering reliable performance and peace of mind.
